Algeria’s national airline becomes the latest operator of Rolls-Royce’s Trent 7000 engine
UK-based global major power and propulsion group Rolls-Royce has highlighted that Algerian national flag carrier Air Algérie has become the latest operator of its Trent 7000 high-bypass turbofan engine. This followed the delivery to the airline, on Thursday, of its first Airbus A330neo twin-engine widebody airliner, which was powered exclusively by the Trent 7000.
“We are honoured to power Air Algérie’s new generation of widebody aircraft with our Trent 7000 engines,” affirmed Rolls-Royce senior VP customers Omar Ali Adib. “For more than seven decades, the airline has built a proud legacy of connecting Africa, Europe and the Middle East, and is now looking confidently further into Asia and beyond as it expands its global reach. The arrival of the A330neo marks a new chapter in this journey – one defined by efficiency, sustainability and ambition. Rolls-Royce is proud to stand alongside Air Algérie as it positions Algiers as a bridge between continents.”
The Trent 7000 is the seventh generation of the Trent aeroengine family. The Trent family is the world’s most successful large aeroengine series, which has accumulated more than 200-million flying hours since the original Trent model (the Trent 700) entered service 30 years ago. (The Trent 700 was designed to power the original Airbus A330 model.)
The Trent 7000 can deliver between 68 000 lb and 72 000 lb of thrust. It is six decibels quieter, and provides a 14% improvement in fuel burn, compared with the original Trent 700.
Air Algérie has ordered a total of ten A330-900 versions of the A330neo family. The last of these should be delivered by the middle of 2027.
Rolls-Royce has a presence in 48 countries (including South Africa) and has customers in more than 100 other countries. In addition to serving the aviation sector (both commercial and defence), the group also serves the marine and industrial sectors. Last year it recorded underlying revenues of £17.8-billion and an underlying operating profit of £2.46-billion.
